Coffee culture in the Philippines is once again thriving, and the world is taking notice as four Filipino cafes have entered “The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops 2025” list, proving that the country is more than just a land of strong 3-in-1 brews.

These cafes aren’t just serving coffee; they’re pushing boundaries and putting the Philippines on the global coffee map. Whether you’re a coffee aficionado or just someone who enjoys a great cup of joe, these must visit spots are redefining what it means to enjoy coffee.

Yardstick, Metro Manila

If you’ve been anywhere near the specialty coffee scene in Manila, you’ve probably heard of Yardstick. Established in 2013, it set out to change the way Filipinos experience coffee – steering away from mainstream commercial blends and instead focusing on specialty-grade brews. Today, it’s one of the most influential coffee brands in the country, with multiple locations and a flagship store in Makati.

Their Golden Ticket blend is a crowd favorite espresso blend, loved for its mixed and rich flavor notes of dark chocolate, mandarin orange, and toffee. But, Yardstick isn’t just about serving great coffee – they’re also shaping the industry. Through their “coffee program”, they initiate educating aspiring baristas and coffee entrepreneurs in which the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) provides regular certification courses, helping grow the local coffee community.

Yardstick also has its own club: the Yardstick Coffee Club (YCC) which organizes exclusive monthly events for its members and offers purchasing perks, priority passes, a space and opportunity to interact with fellow coffee enthusiasts.

Recognized as the third-best coffee shop in Asia and top 18 worldwide, Yardstick continues to set the standard for specialty coffee in the region. Their meticulous approach to sourcing, roasting, and brewing has earned them a dedicated following both locally and internationally. Whether you’re stepping into their Makati flagship store or enjoying a cup at home with their beans and brews, every sip reflects their commitment to quality innovation.

El Union Coffee, La Union

Sun, sand, and… specialty coffee? That’s the magic of El Union Coffee. What started as a small coffee spot that used to be a rice stall in 2013 has grown into a beloved institution in San Juan, La Union serving an abundance of visitors, foreign travellers, and even Martha Stewart in 2019.

Founded by wife-husband duo Kiddo and Amy Cosio, El Union is all about good coffee and a tight-knit community. Their philosophy revolves around ethical sourcing, quality brews, and a welcoming atmosphere. They work closely with farmers in the Cordilleras, Benguet, Mt. Apo, and Bukidnon, ensuring that their beans not only taste great but also support Philippine coffee producers.

Their Dirty Horchata, a creamy blend of cinnamon-spiced rice milk and espresso, and Nitro Cold Brew, a smooth refreshing coffee infused with nitrogen, have staples for both surfers and casual visitors.

The laid-back ambiance, complete with rustic wooden interiors and beachfront views make every cup feel like a mini vacation.

Beyond coffee, El Union fosters a culture of community building grounded by the founders’ principles of being givers and receivers in providing a homey cafe environment and experience by the sea.

As Amy Cosio puts it: “We are both givers and receivers. You are part of this story, and you have the power to throw it off balance if you don’t embrace the responsibility of Para sa Tao. We make and we take in equal measure, and over time we nourish a network of healthy relationships. Walang dehado, walang utang na loob. Tumutulong at tinutulungan. Human dignity cemented through service. All our dreams – whether societal, financial, or political – sit on a foundation of solidarity. That is what El Union stands for in La Union, and that is the kind of world we are fighting for.”

El Union has branches beyond La Union including Baguio, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), and Urbiztondo. They also have a new concept shop called “Del Union” which serves sandwiches as well as coffee.

El Union is ranked 8th best coffee shop in Asia and 61st worldwide.

Single Origin, Metro Manila

Coming in at 83rd best coffee shop in the world and 11th best in Asia, Single Origin is where great coffee meets gourmet dining. Since 2015, it has been a go-to spot for those who want their caffeine fix with a side of comfort food.

Unlike many specialty cafes that focus purely on coffee and aesthetic vibes, Single Origin takes it a step further by pairing top-quality brews with a well-curated menu. Think indulgent waffles, croissants, heart steak and eggs, and everything in between. Their signature drinks like the Affogato and Spanish Latte offer a fun twist on classic coffee beverages. The warm, rustic interiors make it the perfect place for cozy brunches, casual meetings, or solo coffee dates.

“It’s an all-day brunch place,” said Single Origin owner Carlo Gordon Lorenzana. “We wanted to do a coffee place but not just end at coffee: really put on a full menu and put on a whole bar that would go through to the late hours: coffee, cocktails, wine, beer. Luckily, we were able to do it in a way where everyone was satisfied at any time of the day, getting what they want.”

Single Origin is also known for its extensive selection of beans sourced from a California supplier, Lamill Coffee in Los Angeles, offering a range of single origin coffee from around the world. Whether you’re in the mood for a classic flat white or an experimental pour-over, there’s something for every kind of drink and meal pairing for breakfast, lunch, dinner to happy cocktail hours.

Single Origin Cafes are located among nine branches: Greenbelt 5, Molito, Rockwell, Salcedo, Vertis North, Opus Mall, IKEA MOA Square, BGC, and Capitol Commons.

Crema & Cream Coffee Roasters, Quezon City

Crema and Cream Coffee Roasters started in 2016 as a passion project among coffee enthusiasts who wanted to bring top-quality, freshly roasted beans to Filipino coffee lovers. Over time their commitment to precision roasting and sourcing only the beans has made them a favorite among both casual drinkers and serious coffee aficionados.

Their bestsellers, Brazil Mogiana and Starry Night Decaf, have won over those who crave bold flavors with smooth finishes. The cafe experience at Crema and Cream is also elevated with their own menu for dining, such as their version of a pork rib served with a variety of flavorful sauces resulting in a delicate dance of complimentary taste.

But Crema and Cream isn’t just about great coffee and food; it’s about learning to appreciate it too. The cafe also conducts workshops on Espresso & Milk Basics, Home Brewing Basics, as well as Coffee Tasting and Appreciation sessions, turning customers into more informed coffee drinkers.

Whether it’s a friendly brewing class or an advanced cupping session, Crema and Cream Coffee Roasters is dedicated to spreading coffee knowledge. With its warm and minimalist vibe, this Quezon City gem is the one of the perfect places to sit back, sip, and savor the craft of every cup.

The QC Cafe ranked 86th on the list of The World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops and 13th best in Asia.

With four Philippine cafes earning a spot as one of 100 best coffeehouses in the world for 2025, it’s clear that the country’s coffee scene and culture is proving to be more than just a trend – it’s a movement, an experience.

These cafes are shaping the industry, spotlighting local farmers, and redefining what it means to enjoy a great cup of coffee. More than just places to grab a caffeine fix or grab a bite, these coffeehouses are destinations – spaces where conversations flow, ideas spark, and cultures blend.

So grab your friend, colleague or just have yourself on a solo date and immerse in the aroma, flavors, and stories behind every cup.
